Primate
I’m not gonna have a lot to say, mostly because this is exactly what you think this is. From the outside, it looks like a horror film about a chimpanzee that kills a bunch of people. On the inside, it’s just a horror film about a chimpanzee that kills a bunch of people. So if you’re expecting something besides a chimpanzee that kills a bunch of people, don’t. The plus is that it’s mostly just suspense with the occasional carnage, and you don’t have to think too hard or pay too much attention. On the flipside, it doesn’t feel like it has much substance to it. Everything between the fun kills felt very generic and cliche, and it’s nothing I haven’t seen before. It’s nothing new, but hey, at least the villain is a bit different. The dialogue isn’t anything too great, and about what you think these kinds of horror films sound like. However, I thought the acting was pretty decent, give or take a few scenes. The cast isn’t super memorable, but not totally forgettable. Right in the middle. Finally, the use of a physical chimp suit, combined with animatronics and puppetry was really cool, and actually looked pretty natural. We need more of that and less VFX. Overall, it’s a very mediocre film, and while it has some insanely awesome moments, it also has some that just feel bland and unoriginal. I would recommend it if you like horror films where you can shut off your brain and just enjoy the blood and tension.
