Captain America: Brave New World
It’s been nearly a year since this came out, and I definitely didn’t miss too much. I’ll say this: when I first saw the trailer, I thought it looked insanely good. There was such a nice vibe that was dark and mysterious and reminded me of a political thriller. However, upon watching it, it definitely didn’t live up to my hype. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it is necessarily a bad film, but it’s only decent at best. There were moments where I was genuinely entertained, and occasionally, the aesthetic was great. On the flipside, the dialogue was awful, the story was a bit boring and it fizzled out at the end. Considering that the first two acts had a nice little build up, the third act just falls through and ends on a really dull note. The whole film is extremely sloppy and very evident that there were reshoots and important pieces missing. But again, it’s still entertaining when it needs to be, and the action scenes were fun. I enjoyed the final Hulk fight, though again, it ultimately led to nothing. I also liked the Top Gun-esque scene with the USA and Japan. The performances were all mediocre, though Harrison Ford is good because Harrison Ford is always good. It’s just a shame that Marvel was able to land him, and this is the film he was in. But everyone else just blends in and doesn’t really add anything memorable to the film. Not like I was expecting anything generational anyways. Lastly, the visual effects were a bit horrible at times, mostly with the green screen. Some shots were decent, but a lot of the time, it was just awful and super evident. Again, not like I expected anything good, but man, Marvel needs to get their crap together. Overall, this is a film that can be enjoyed if you turn off your brain and just try to have fun, but even then, it’s hard to not notice the jarring bits. I would probably recommend it only to Marvel fans, and mostly just to be caught up in this cinematic universe. And here’s to Tim Blake Nelson being awesome!
