Moon Knight (2022)

Moon Knight

• Season two when? This show takes such a big swing and it absolutely lands so much that it doesn’t even feel like an MCU project at times. Honestly, my only reminder that this is an MCU show is seeing the MCU intro before each episode. It’s such a standout show, and has a vastly different feel than the others. Obviously with the suits and powers, you’re certainly reminded of the superhero genre, but the fantasy/mythology elements are what make it so great. I enjoyed the entire story, and it’s definitely a lot to take in. I liked it much more on a rewatch because I didn’t have to learn new information, so I just enjoyed it and found the smaller things I missed the first time. Especially in the latter half of the show, which gets really deep, really quick. Steven/Marc’s journey is so amazing, and done better than most shows/films could do with this kind of subject matter. Not only is it entertaining, but it takes the mental health topic seriously as well. It does so in a way that it isn’t too uncomfortable, but still points out the important notes. Oscar Isaac did a great job in his roles, as he was able to physically, mentally, and emotionally portray exactly what he was feeling. It might be a top five MCU performance of all time. I also really loved Ethan Hawke (it’s hard not to) and his character. Of course, he’s one of my favorite actors of all time, so I’m slightly biased, but still. Everyone else was pretty great, and the costume design was also really good. Marc’s suit was absolute beauty, and I truly couldn’t get enough of it. It’s easily a top three MCU suit ever. Most of the visual effects were pretty good, and though there’s a heavy reliance on CGI at times, it still nearly always works. It’s obvious, but still looks good and elevates the mystical feel. The music was pretty good, but the fight scenes were always my favorite. They were very well shot, and it only makes you love Moon Knight more. The choreography was almost Daredevil-esque (at least during the street fights). All the action scenes were epic. Overall, this show is amazing, and I’d recommend it to all MCU fans, especially if you love the more psychologically focused material. And we need a season two STAT. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
