Man, talking about hidden gems. I can’t even remember how I heard of this show, I think it was just in passing, and I added it to my list. I got around to watching it, and holy cow, it’s one of the best shows you’ll ever see. Whether you have any connection to the military or not, it’s a show that everyone can relate to, somehow. My first thought is that I need like ten more seasons of this show. Usually, I’m against adding more to something so perfect, but there’s so many different directions you could go with some following seasons, and I need to see so much more. Not only is it a fantastic character study for multiple characters, but you can introduce the troops’ deployment and their brotherhood during action. I wish they would put me in the writers room. All I’m saying is that Netflix is sitting on gold and they need to keep it up. Anyways, the storyline is fantastic, with a good look into certain barriers for the military in the 90’s, and how people dealt with them. I know in the book this was based off of, the time and setting was a little different, but still, the writing is extremely strong. Not only do you become emotionally attached to the characters, but there’s also a lot of physicality that is entertaining. It’s a wonderful mix of action and grit with drama and relationships. You can feel so much tension blaring off the screen, and by the end of the season, you feel like you’ve accomplished everything that the recruits have. The casting is absolutely perfect in every aspect, and there isn’t a single miscast in the whole series. From Cameron and Ray, to Sullivan and Hicks, every single person has such a strong personality. The acting is top tier, relatable, natural, authentic, and just…..perfect. That’s why I want more seasons, because I need to know what happens to each person and how they learn and grow together. I mean, seriously, there is so much potential right now…..this could be a top ten show of all time if done right. Here’s to hoping (hey Netflix, you can always contact me if you need some help brainstorming). Overall, it’s one of the best shows of this whole freaking century, and if you pass on watching it, you’re missing out big time. I would recommend it to every single person on this planet. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
