Doctor Who (Seasons 14-15)
The 15th Doctor’s run was….interesting, to say the least. Despite an increased budget with BBC’s deal with Disney, there was a noticeable drop in quality from the previous Doctor’s tenure. Most of the VFX were good, and visually, most of it is pretty sound. However, there were some flaws with the writing that ultimately seemed to have rushed into Ncuti’s departure. Maybe that’s not the case at all, but the fact that he only got two seasons was extremely unfortunate. The overall storylines were decent, and the companions were great, though the finale was on the weaker side, and it doesn’t set up any kind of clear future. Having Ncuti regenerate into Billie Piper was absolutely awesome, though I feel very apprehensive about how it’s going to work. Is she the 16th Doctor? Is she some alternate form? Only time will tell, and no matter what, it’s a very bold choice that I hope pays off. We’ll see. In terms of performances, Ncuti is one of the best to play the Doctor, and he certainly didn’t have enough time in this role. He was quirky and silly, yet compassionate and loving. He is also the first openly queer person to play the Doctor, and a queer Doctor at that. I loved seeing that decision making, because it makes the Doctor so much more loveable and relatable. Ncuti, we are all going to miss you very much, and hopefully, we’ll see you soon. Overall, these two seasons were very solid, although the classic Doctor Who flare is definitely not as fully there as it has been in the past. I wouldn’t necessarily object against a change in writers……but you didn’t hear that from me. I still enjoyed it all, though. These seasons are officially Berry Approved, so go watch them now!
