Superman (2025)

James Gunn, you methodical, passionate, talented genius. I think it’s safe to say that he is the greatest comic book movie director that has ever lived. Just look at his filmography: ‘Super’, all three ‘Guardians’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, and now this. And that’s not including ‘Peacemaker’ or ‘Creature Commandos’. Greatest CBM director of all time. He absolutely understood the values and character of Superman in this adaptation, and no one could've done the job that he did on this. It was like a comic book that came to life. Every scene feels like it jumped off the page of “All-Star Superman” or any of the original Action Comics. The story was maybe a little messy, and jumped around quickly, but was still very entertaining, and applies to real world issues. I love how the great ensemble of characters all help add to one arching storyline, and it didn’t feel too crowded at all. Every person has their own personality, and adds a nice little piece to the puzzle. David Corenswet IS Superman, and he was born for the role. Physically, mentally, emotionally……he is him. Rachel Brosnahan was insanely good, and Nicholas Hoult delivered a villain performance for the ages. I’d even go as far to say that he gave one of the best villain performances of the century. Nobody has been more bald. The costume design was freaking phenomenal. The cinematography was (mostly) very good, with popping colors and beautiful visuals. The CGI was also (mostly) very good, though here’s a tiny handful of wonky shots, but for me, that’s the magic of comic book movies. I love when it feels just goofy enough, but still looks really good. Lastly, the score made you want to run through a brick wall, and while it uses the classic Williams theme, it’s still its own thing, and packs so much emotion and triumph. There’s a million more things I want to say, but I’ll stop here. Overall, it’s one of the best superhero films of the century, and I think I’ll enjoy it even more the second time. It’s funny, it’s serious, it’s exciting, and most of all, it contains heart. I’d recommend it to all superhero/action fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
