Twinless
Oh man. I don’t know where to start. I think of every film I’ve seen from 2025, this might be the most personal and relatable one I’ve sat through. I can’t fully relate to the whole twin thing, but it’s just the characters that are so easy to connect to and once you get to know them, you don’t want to let go. Even through all the questionable decisions and rough patches, you can’t help but love each one and want nothing but the best for them. I wanted to hold on to Dennis and Roman and never let go. Not just physically, but spiritually. I was them. You might think I’m reading too deep into the film but I promise you, I’m not. Everything clicked the way it needed to. The story was so perfectly written in a very heartbreaking way, but it was also healing. A good kind of hurt. The kind where you keep getting punched again and again, but you’re almost grateful for each one. That makes absolutely no sense, but it’s fine. By the end, everything comes full circle and it’s one of the most deep and personal experiences I’ve had watching a film in recent times. Also, the fact that James Sweeney wrote, directed, and starred in this. He’s so freaking talented, and I’d say that this film, and his commitment to it, is on the same level as Jesse Eisenberg and ‘A Real Pain’ (though that one is just *slightly* above this). I also want to say how I went into this mostly for Dylan O’Brien, but I was blown away by how massive Sweeney’s performance was. It’s very hard to decide who the main character is, because both men have so much depth and personality, and they each carry their own weight. Their performances are very heavy but also very comedic when needed, which made this a nice dramedy. Dylan delivers his best performance yet, and every line he delivers has so much rawness and emotion. Same for Sweeney. He’s just so vulnerable and naive, and though he’s a bit of a dolt, I truly think he means well and was just trying to figure himself out. I’m actually so in love with this film, it’s not even funny. It just feels so down to earth and I want everyone to know that I’m claiming it as mine. I would recommend it to all drama/comedy fans, especially if you like ‘A Real Pain’. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
