The Creep Tapes (Season 1)
Watching this directly after the two Creep films was very fun. Doing everything in one day was a trip and a half, and all these projects have cemented themselves as one of my favorite horror series. The second season of this show comes out in about a month and a half as of this writing, and I’m so excited. This season is super simple, and you don’t really have to use your brain. It’s purely just a documentation of Peachfuzz’s kills, which are all different in their own way. Despite it being this simple, it’s very original and I’m surprised no one has done it like this before. There’s no crazy twists or turns. There isn’t a bunch of character drama. It’s literally just Peachfuzz going after people and knocking them off. Simple and entertaining. Mark Duplass’s performance continues to stay really strong, and he’s a pure delight in this. Despite the fact that he’s a maniacal serial killer. Nobody could do this like he could. The found footage/documentary shooting style is what gives this an edge. Anything else would feel too over produced. Finally, the half hour episode style is exactly what this needed to be. It’s just short enough so it doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it’s just long enough to provide enough thrills and kills for one episode. Overall, this season isn’t anything groundbreaking or mindblowing. It’s simple, has a DIY feel, and doesn’t look big budget (not that it needs to be). But it’s exciting, intriguing, and sometimes silly. It was great, and I’m super excited for the next season. I would recommend this to all horror fans. This season is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
