Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Unfortunately, this doesn’t quite reach the level that ‘Jurassic World’ reached. Not that ‘Jurassic World’ reached a crazy level, but this film is definitely a step down. I will agree that this definitely has its moments of fun action, chases, and kills. There’s a lot of sequences where I quite enjoyed myself. Just seeing Chris Pratt get to both fight and help dinosaurs, alongside his friends, is just a blast. Not as much as the previous film, but still. Especially when they’re on the island with all the volcano stuff, I loved that. However, on the flipside, there felt like there were several scenes that were drawn out and mostly added fluff. The runtime, in my opinion, is a wee bit too long. Probably twenty minutes could’ve been cut out. Maybe that’s just me, I don’t know. The storyline is solid, it was just stretched out too much. But I love the concept of the rich being in control of the dinosaurs for their own wants and needs. Great concept, just not all the way there. I also think the acting was a tiny step down, but not by much. The returning cast was good again, and I specifically loved Justice Smith as Franklin. He was some good comedic relief, and I think me and him would be best friends. He’s a dork and I love him. The antagonist(s) felt extremely cliche, and had no special qualities whatsoever. They were menacing, sure, but just your average character writing. Evil guy shows up, does bad things, gets eaten, end of story. That was it. My last few thoughts are that the score by Michael Giacchino was fantastic again as always, and the VFX and practical effects were very well done. The dinosaur designs were awesome. But overall, this film just doesn’t fully cut it, lacking plot substance and it’s too long. There’s some highlights, and it’s decently enjoyable, but it definitely has flaws.
