One Battle After Another
I’m trying to find the best way to describe this film, and I’m struggling. Nuts? Epic? Insane? Off the rails? Totally bonkers? How about “all of the above”? I could probably do a whole rant just about how awesome this made me feel. My head is still spinning. So many thoughts going in and out of my brain, all of them very positive. It’s absolutely one of the best films of this century, and while very gritty and grounded, it’s still comedic and sweeps you off your feet in a surreal manner. I think the release of this film in this day and age, very specifically in our current presidential administration, is perfect timing. It’s a political thriller that really makes you feel certain thoughts towards certain people. It’s made me feel more patriotic than any recent film has. I wanna go fight the government or something. But yeah, the story is fantastic, and while using familiar themes, it does it in its own way that you haven’t seen before. The performances are all fantastic, especially from Leo and Sean Penn. Leo delivers an Oscar worthy performance, and one of my personal favorite roles of his. He’s so relatable, and really embodies the average ex-revolutionary father in a great way. Obviously none of us relate to that, it’s just a joke. And Sean Penn is one of the best villains we’ve seen in a film in…..well, quite some time. His character is such a piece of crap and I hope he gets recognition. The score was extremely good and extremely important, because it keeps the pace going strong, even during scenes that could’ve felt slow. Overall, this film is perfect in every sense, and I can’t think of a single thing to complain about. It’s batsh!t crazy and needs to be experienced in theaters. I would recommend this to every person ever. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
