Incendies
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the best film experiences happen on Tubi. There’s so many beautifully crafted and mind blowing films I’ve seen on there, and this being one of them. Denis Villeneuve is very quickly becoming one of my favorite directors ever, and after watching this, it only makes me love him more. It has so much trauma and grief, but not in a smack-your-face way. It’s kind of a slow burn, and takes its time delivering the punches. Even though it’s a couple minutes over two hours, it didn’t feel like two hours. I got so sucked into it that you don’t notice if it's slow or rushed. The story is well constructed, with a non linear storytelling method that isn’t confusing or jumbled. Once you settle in, it all makes sense right up until the very end. Speaking of which, the last couple minutes have one of the best twists I’ve ever seen in any film ever. I know you won’t believe me when I say this, but I called it about thirty seconds before it happened. It was jokingly, but I still called it. Yay me! Moving on, the performances are all very solid, and though I don’t think any of them are super duper special, you come to find yourself walking alongside Nawal, both personally and emotionally. I wasn’t super moved by the cast specifically, but you find connections. The visuals were great, as they had a sense of realism that really puts you in the middle of everything. My mind is still shattered, so I’ll go ahead and close this review by saying it’s absolutely amazing and everyone should watch it at some point in their life. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
