Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam
To nobody’s surprise, this was just as corny and cheesy as the first Camp Rock, yet it’s still just as perfect and amazing. In fact, I’d even say that this is just barely better than the previous film. A lot of it does feel a little repetitive, but it has a slightly new story with the characters all returning. I think (and heavy emphasis on the “think”) that they tried to make this stand out a little more, in terms of cinematic technique. Don’t misquote me there, because I’m definitely not saying that this film is “cinematic”. It’s cinema for sure, but it’s about as Disney Channel as it gets. What I mean is that it takes itself a little more seriously than the first, and leans more into the emotional aspect. At least that’s what I got from it. The acting doesn’t approve from the first, and everyone (along with everything) is just as campy. Pun intended. Everybody delivers way too much with a script that’s way too dumb. But they gave it their all, and this is a sequel that will forever live in my memory. All the characters are so goofy, but I love each and every one. The choreography was also super cringe, and very spastic, yet I want to learn every single beat and move. The soundtrack is a small step down from the first film as well, but it’s still one of my favorite soundtracks from this century. There’s not too much more to say about this, so I’ll just say that it’s a good sequel that’s a strong follow up to the first, and one of my favorite sequels to date. I would recommend it to all Disney/musical fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
