I Want Your Sex

• I’m ashamed to say that this is my first experience with Gregg Araki, and the reason I’m ashamed is because I’ve gone nearly 23 years without dipping into his filmography. I guess I’ve never really got around to it, as iconic as he is. However, when I saw that Cooper Hoffman was attached to this, I knew I needed to jump on it immediately (am I referring to the film or Cooper?). So anyways, here I am, having been impressed, entertained, and thirsty for more. This isn’t a film that’s top notch or anything, but it’s a lot of stupid fun, with (obviously) plenty of eroticism. If you get uncomfortable with seeing nudity or sex on screen, then this certainly isn’t for you. However, I’m a believer that the human body in any form can be used for art, and this film serves that purpose. It’s almost satirical, while still grounding itself rather than making fun of something in particular. I guess I’m trying to say that it’s over the top, bright, and colorful, and it’s almost like a big live action cartoon. That won’t make sense until you see it. The story itself is quick and easy, and packs a very hilarious punch. I was giggling pretty much for the entire time. The imagery and visuals are eye popping and help give the film that goofy, cartoony look that really pushes it across the line. Both Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde turn in outstandingly funny performances, and I’m very glad it was the two of them that got cast for this. Honorable mention to Chase Sui Wonders and Mason Gooding, who are also great in everything they do (from what I’ve seen). Overall, this is a comedy that’s actually consistently funny from start to finish, and very provocative and sensual. My only major complaint is that they didn’t use “I Want Your Sex” by George Michael. Come on, it’s right there. On the nose, definitely, but still a golden opportunity. Anyways, I’d recommend this to most comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
