Heated Rivalry (Season 1)
My goodness, where do I start? I actually have no idea. This is simply one of the greatest seasons of television ever produced and it is so much to take in and it depicts love in such a fabulous way. There’s definitely times where some stuff that’s being shown is more embellished for entertainment purposes, rather than being factual and realistic (I think you know what I’m referencing). But still, this show had my heart in such a chokehold and didn’t let go until I finished the last episode. The storyline is spread out about a decade, but it goes by super fast and shows the development of Shane and Ilya’s relationship in a very passionate way. Most of the focus is on them, with some on Scott and Kip, and how their trailblazing helps Shane and Ilya be who they really want to be. I won’t say more, because I already gave enough away. But the whole season is a great combination of love and romance, mixed with the hockey world. And dare I say, I am much more interested in hockey now than I ever was. The writing is strong, especially around any intimate scene or deep conversation. Episode five is generationally good and had tears running down my face, but not sad tears. It made me feel like I could take on the world and punch a hole through any brick wall. Most of the internet agrees with me. Then there’s episode six, which only builds on the previous one. The mood and environment was just perfect. The performances from Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie are amazingly good, and both extremely award worthy. If they aren’t nominated for any mainstream awards, we riot. The chemistry between the two men is absolutely off the charts, and I truly believe it was fate that brought those two into this show. There’s a moment in episode four where Shane rests his head on Ilya’s chest, and Ilya runs his fingers through Shane’s hair, and I swear on everything that has been created, my heart was going to explode. They just make everything look so genuine and authentic, which is honestly tricky to do. I just love these characters and I love this show and I need season two RIGHT NOW. It’s coming, I just hope it doesn’t take too long. Anyways, it’s one of the best seasons of romance I’ve ever seen, and I would recommend it to everyone and anyone. This season is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
