Jurassic World
In the world of soft reboots, this is definitely one of the better ones I’ve seen. If we’re gonna be honest, yes, it’s very similar to the first Jurassic Park, which maybe doesn’t make this as exciting. However, it introduces new elements, in terms of dinosaurs and the actual theme park. I absolutely love how Jurassic World is an active, inhabited theme park, as opposed to the original Jurassic Park, which is only in beginner stages. The stakes are raised, which gives this extra thrill. The whole design of the park is absolutely awesome, with cool attractions such as the hydraulic seats and the glass rolly ball things. All of those really modernize this to bring it to the present day, while still being reminiscent of the original. I wasn’t a super huge fan of any of the characters, except for Owen and whoever Jake Johnson played. The acting was very solid though, it was just the characters I didn’t care for. Chris Pratt is great in this, and I will always stand up for him. So many people crap on him for no reason, but in this house, we stan Chris Pratt. He is a full blown beef mate. Bryce Dallas Howard is also good, and I love seeing my ‘Insidious’ bro Ty Simpkins. And Jake Johnson, of course. The VFX were phenomenal, and much better than I thought they’d be. I told myself before I watched this, if all the dinosaurs are CGI, well I actually enjoy this? Will they feel real enough to have a powerful on screen presence, despite them being generated? Yes, they are awesome and terrifying, and felt real. They obviously weren’t, but the VFX were so well done, that you forget they aren’t actually there. Lastly, the score was energetic, powerful, and definitely delivers the nostalgic Jurassic Park feel. Michael Giacchino is him! Especially when he gets to use a John Williams theme, and do everything else himself. MIKEY G SUPREMACY! Overall, this film is pretty fun and thrilling, and though it’s very similar to the original, it still works as its own thing. I’m really hoping the next few can be just as strong. I would recommend this to all dino/sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
