Spider-Man: Homecoming

• As the first of four MCU Spider-Man films (for now), it’s technically my least favorite, although still really good and I absolutely love it. This is definitely a non-traditional Spider-Man film, because it’s so connected to the MCU and not stand-alone. It immediately picks up from Civil War, and it basically skips over Spider-Man’s origin. I was actually fine with that, because we’ve already seen his origin twice with Tobey and Andrew. So, having it immediately jump into the swing of things (no pun intended) is really nice and a good change from previous films. There’s also a definite change in Spider-Man’s character, like trying to prove himself, and also his reliance on technology. The big reason why Tom is such a non-orthodox Spider-Man (at least in live action) is because of his reliance on technology. I'm not huge on how his suit has all these different gadgets, and different settings that it can be on. It works for the MCU and this specific version of the character, but sometimes it's hard to get past. Sometimes it takes away the classic Spider-Man feel. Tom Holland is still great for this young, inexperienced version of this superhero. Let's also mention Michael f***king Keaton. He is one of the reasons that this film is so good, in the same sense as Heath Ledger in 'The Dark Knight'. I said what I said. His acting is so spot on, and I remember being so amazed the first time I saw this. Despite his infamous Batman portrayal, Michael brings forth a great villain persona, and he is definitely in my top three live action Spider-Man villains (only behind Green Goblin and Doc Ock, of course). When he says the line, “Good ol’ Spider-Man” you can really see his emotion and acting skills, and it’s my favorite scene of the entire film. Also, the score is absolutely amazing, and Michael Giacchino continues to dazzle me. He gives us one of the best modern-day superhero themes, and not just the main theme, but the entire score does a great job of giving the movie a heroic feel. It's probably a top ten (or at least fifteen) CBM score of all time for me. Overall, this film is great, and though the weakest of the MCU Spider-Man films, it's really fun, and I’d definitely recommend it to all Marvel/superhero fans.
