Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (Season 1)
I didn’t particularly have high hopes for this show, just because I knew it wasn’t directly connected into any major storylines (for now, at least). That being said, I think it landed right where I expected it to in terms of Star Wars rankings. I’ve still yet to see a bad Star Wars show, but this is towards the bottom, based on enjoyment. It certainly wasn’t horrible, and it has one of my favorite season finales of any Star Wars show. However, I didn’t always care for the main storyline, or really any of the characters. Even though there are definitely some more darker, intense moments, it feels like a show that’s really tailored for families, because the writing was very blunt and obvious. There was a lot of simple exposition and I felt spoon fed, which is the same thing I said about ‘Ahsoka’. Now, it totally makes sense for it to be like that, because the main characters are all kids, and that’s how kids talk. But as an adult, it just didn’t feel intricate enough. But that’s solely a personal preference. I still enjoyed the show, it just doesn’t stick as much as some others do. Story-wise, it deals with pirates, which is always fun, but seeing as it doesn’t feel like a lot is added to Star Wars lore, I found it hard to necessarily want to care. I still paid attention and had fun, but in the end, it’s just another Star Wars show. The performances are all pretty decent, with great work from the kids, and a masterful showcase from Jude Law. Especially in the era of the sequels, he sticks out as a truly great Disney-era Star Wars performance. Nobody does it quite like him, especially in that last episode. The VFX are fantastic as always, with great planet/space design and both returning and new species. Overall, it’s not a super overwhelming season, but if season two happens, I’ll still be watching for sure. I would probably recommend this to most Star Wars fans. This season is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
