Possession
Come on now, how in the world are you gonna remake this? I have no clue when the remake is coming out, but it’s not going to hold a candle to this psychological roller coaster. I waited much too long to watch it, mostly because every time I wanted to, it wasn’t streaming anywhere. But it’s Spooktober, and my good friend Shudder hooked me up. It was definitely worth the wait, but I was encapsulated by every second of this. I know it’s gonna live in my mind rent free. I can’t even explain what it’s about (not in words, at least), so I won’t even try. Just know it’s such a deep film that explores trauma, love, relationships, distress, infidelity, and like ten other themes. It does so in a way that will entertain you, while also almost feeling like a documentary. It’s so authentic and raw, and I can’t get past it. Just written so brilliantly. The cinematography is astounding, with so many claustrophobic shots that put you right in the middle of everything. Likewise, you feel so elevated, like you’re looking down on everyone. Almost like you’re God and a peasant, at the same time. The duo of Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill deliver an S-tier level of horror performances. In the world of horror, there are iconic duos like Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh, Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga….I’m now putting Adjani and Neill up there with them. I'm blown away. I don’t even know if I can talk more about this, I’m so shocked. It’s everything it needs to be, and more. If you haven’t seen it yet…well, what are you waiting for? This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
