Tropic Thunder
A classic from start to finish. I’ve seen and heard so much about this film over the last couple years, mostly memes and iconic moments. I finally got around to watching it, and I understand the hype. I don’t think it’s anything phenomenal, but it excels in satire, homage, and overall comedy. I love how it starts as a movie in a movie, clearly paying tribute to ‘Platoon’. It then morphs into comedy mixed with some Rambo-esque action. There’s so many great references to iconic war films, so it’s fun trying to catch those. The premise of actors going into battle was also hilarious, and not a concept I’ve seen. This is like the Marvel movie of war films. It’s got plenty of action and grit, yet it succeeds in naturally bringing in comedy and being light hearted. The cast is great, with a terrific trio of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr, and Jack Black. Just those three alone make it awesome, but adding in Tom Cruise, Matthew McConaughey, Steve Coogan, and JAMES LANCE “LANSTEN” BASS OH MY GOSH I WAS FREAKING OUT. HE WAS ONLY ON SCREEN FOR LIKE FIVE SECONDS BUT IT WAS THE GREATEST FIVE SECONDS IN RECENT MEMORY. I’m not overreacting. I’m actually underreacting. Anyways, the cast is great, with some memorable line deliveries. The soundtrack and music was very solid, though nothing too crazy. To wrap everything up, it’s a solid film that provides laughs and fun sequences. It’s nothing mind blowing, and it’s a bit silly at times, but that’s literally the point. I can definitely see myself watching this again, and probably enjoying it even more the second time. I’d recommend it to all action/comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
