Carrie (2013)
Can you remake ‘Citizen Kane’? No. Can you remake ‘Singin’ in the Rain’? No. Can you remake ‘The Godfather’? No. Can you remake ‘Mulholland Drive’? No. Can you remake ‘Carrie’?..........No. You simply can’t. You can try, but it won’t work. I’ll make this review quick because this film doesn’t deserve a whole lot of thought from me. Yes, that’s how prestigious I think I am haha. This feels kind of like Gus Van Sant’s ‘Psycho’, in terms of being shot for shot (or at least feels like it). The similarities are so close, it’s like, what’s even the point? At least make it differentiate from the original, and it simply doesn’t. The only thing it really does different is be more graphic with the death scenes. That’s it. Even the fade in/out transitions are the same (this felt like it was supposed to have commercials). The acting was pretty lame all around, though Ansel Elgort was decent. I was happy to see Julianne Moore, who’s one of my favorite actresses, but even she couldn’t cut it. That’s honestly all I really want to say. It's a remake that doesn’t need to exist, and even Stephen King agrees. If you’re gonna do a remake, pay tribute to a previous version but make it your own. Don’t ride the success of someone’s piece of work. I wouldn’t recommend this unless you’re just hurting to watch some crappy 2010’s horror.
