The Life of Chuck
I’m not exactly sure how to begin this. I still feel so blown away, I can’t get my thoughts straight. I guess for starters, I absolutely loved this, as it brings something new and unique, while still reminding me of past pieces of work. It reminded me of ‘The Truman Show’, ‘Twin Peaks’, and some classic musicals. There’s nothing super specific that reminded me of those, but just the overall tone and atmosphere really creates a mysterious feel, but also one of contentment. Honestly, the entire first act almost feels like a horror movie, and made me anxious and stressed. It wasn’t scary, but there was a lot of tension and suspense. As the film progresses, more information is given, and turns into more of a feel good, coming of age story. The genre bending was really cool. So was the non-linear storytelling. I’m not always a huge fan of that, but in this case, I think it absolutely works. It wouldn’t have been quite as good if everything was point A to point B. The overall writing and structure was quite impressive. Such a strong screenplay. The cast was downright fantastic, and probably one of the best cast films of the 2020’s. I love how Chuck is portrayed by four different actors, all of whom did a wonderful job. Obviously, Tom Hiddleston was the top billed name, but Benjamin Pajak is the dark horse candidate for best performance. He is what truly brings Chuck to life. He steals every scene he’s in, and gives the best glimpse of what it’s like to be Chuck. I really enjoyed Mark Hamill and Chiwetel Ejiofor as well. The score/soundtrack was very solid, with a mellow sound that completes the whole film, and a couple songs that I definitely hummed along to. There’s so much more I want to say, but I’m still reeling with the wonderful feeling this film has left me with, so I’ll end it here. I guess my final thought is that it’s such a glorious, heartfelt, and emotional piece of work that can be enjoyed by everyone. Seriously, go see this while it’s still in theaters. It’s one of the best films of 2025. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
