Jurassic World Rebirth
If I had one word to sum this up, it would be “eh”. That’s how I felt when it was done. I didn’t expect this to be fantastic, but I did have some hopes for it based on the trailers. The trailers looked great, but the film doesn’t quite live up to it. If there’s one thing consistent with this franchise, it’s that all the films have awesome and thrilling action, but the stories are just downright awful (all except the original). This one in particular was shockingly shallow and empty. If I’m gonna be honest, there’s not a single scrap of good writing in this whole thing. Spoiler coming, what the heck was up with the random family they rescued. They had absolutely no impact at all to the plot. Whatsoever. It was an awful, pointless subplot that completely took me out of the film. The main plot was also very slow and very lame. Dinosaur life is waning, but guess what, another island! Again! For the millionth time! Not much to want to pay attention to. The cast was decent, though nothing spectacular. ScarJo wasn’t at her best, but I liked Rupert Friend and I enjoyed the heck out of Jonathan Bailey. He’s simply one of the most gorgeous things to look at on this planet. The score by Alexandre Desplat was beautiful and gorgeous, and the highlight of the film for me. Desplat is one of my all time favorite composers, and he certainly doesn’t disappoint in this. Finally, the VFX were pretty solid, though sometimes it was very noticeable. But not always. I especially love the design of the D-Rex, which was terrifying yet downright cool. Overall, this film is not great, but it does have some funny and entertaining moments. But it’s not one I’ll watch again. I’d only recommend it if you are a die hard dinosaur fan.
