Avatar: The Way of Water
Oh my. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that a film could look this good. It’s not a perfect film, but in terms of visuals and cinematography, it’s about some of the best you’ll ever see. I don’t think I can use words to even describe how it looks, you just have to experience it for yourself. So I’m not gonna try. However, I don’t think I enjoyed this as much as the first film. It’s still brilliantly amazing, I just don’t think the story gripped me all too much. Reason being, kind of like the first film, it feels a bit cliche. A lot of recycled themes you typically find in action/adventure films. Not knocking the writers at all, because all the characters were written beautifully. It’s just that it didn’t necessarily feel new. But besides that, this is on the same level as the first film, and a little higher. Visually, it’s much stronger, and you just can’t believe you’re watching a film, but rather, you are IN the film. The CGI is quite possibly the best I’ve seen in any film, EVER. And that’s saying a LOT. It’s one of the greatest achievements in film history. The Na’vi look so lifelike that it’s crazy. Of course, there’s a couple moments throughout the film that look slightly choppy or a little too glossy, but everything else outweighs it. The Moana-esque environment is breathtaking, the animals are all larger than life, and just the whole vibe was….there. The score was thunderous and magnificent, and extremely notable. It adds so much depth and feeling, more than there already is. The performances are all exceptional, especially from Zoe Saldaña. Even though her performance is mocap, it’s still Oscar worthy. Overall, this is a great sequel, and improves on the first in most aspects, though also lacks a little. If you like the first film, you’ll seriously enjoy this one. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
