Zootopia
DISNEY ATE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS. I’m super hyped we’re getting a sequel, but there’s absolutely no way it’s gonna be better than this film right here. My gosh, it hits in every way possible, and is extremely relevant to modern life and our political climate. There’s no way to misinterpret this film, no matter how hard you try to spin it. It teaches people to fight prejudice, hate, corruption, and look past imperfections to see the best in someone. And no matter how big your dream is, you can also achieve it if you really try. It’s such a feel good film, while, again, being extremely relevant. Take notes, America! The main duo of Judy and Nick are casted and written to perfection. They’re both relatable and have their positive quirks, but you’re able to dive just deep enough to see a vulnerable side. There’s enough character growth to keep things interesting, but also not too deep to go over anyone’s head. Everything just works the way it needs to. The voice performances from Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman are so natural and down to earth, which I’m glad of. In so many animated films, the performances are very silly or over the top, which can be the case for this one. But the main characters are all…..real. You feel like you actually know them and are a part of their journey. The voice cast sells them as being individuals, not just little animated characters. I love this film so much. The animation is ridiculously amazing, with so many great textures, colors, and environmental designs. The amount of detail is honestly astounding. Especially all the references to real life stores, bands/artists, and films. The references to ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ are just top notch. Lastly, the score from the wickedly talented Michael Giacchino is gorgeous and playful, but just subtle enough to blend in perfectly with each character and setting. The man DOES NOT MISS. Overall, this film is perfect in every way, and if you disagree, then you’re simply wrong. Immaculately written, immaculately put together, and just….immaculate. I would recommend this to every living person ever. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
