Final Destination: Bloodlines
Much like the rest of the franchise, this is a very silly film that has so many Looney Tunes-esque sequences, and several unbearable characters. In that sense, this pays great tribute to the other films. However, I do think this has one of the strongest stories of the franchise. Basically every film rides on the same idea, and doesn’t add anything new to the franchise. You could eliminate all of the films, except the first one, and nothing would change, story-wise. But this one adds much more lore to the overall storyline, especially around characters. Tony Todd’s character is given a background and explanation, and finally grounds him. I wasn’t a huge fan of that, because I loved his mystery, but it was a nice addition, considering it’s the last film he did. His scene in this was fantastic and almost a gut punch. It was done with as much taste as possible, and I can’t thank the filmmakers enough for giving him that send-off. Anyways, the story is strong, but that’s about all the film has going for it. Most of the kills were sweet, but extremely comical, like always. But they weren’t anything that beats past kills. The acting was decent, though nothing that stood out. And as I said, several of the characters were not great, and annoying. But I really liked Erik and Charlie. That’s it. Lastly, the soundtrack was nice, with some good additions from CCR and Johnny Cash. Overall, the film is decent, though it doesn’t live up to the first one as the best. It was quite enjoyable, and pretty funny, and it ranks in the middle in my final Final Destination rankings. I would recommend this to all Final Destination fans! Rest in peace Tony Todd. We’ll miss you.
