Last Call For Vitriol
Wow, my first album review in a little over two years. I’m not sure why I don’t write these more often, probably because I’m lazy. But I was recommended the song ‘The Staggering Genius’ by a good friend, and it was by some band called Superdrag, and I listened to the song. Well I really loved it, so then I decided to listen to the album the song is on, which is, of course, “Last Call For Vitriol”. And let me tell you, it’s good enough to get me out of a two year slump, then you need to listen to it. The whole album is a wonderful blend of pop, rock, and punk. Normally, I’m not a fan of punk or rock, but I usually like pop rock, and I absolutely dug it. It’s such an electric album, but it’s not too heavy, which to me, is good. It was honestly a bit relaxing, but also pumps you up and gives you a good sound to bob your head to. Great mix of instruments and strong vocals. Like I said, “The Staggering Genius” is pretty sweet, and I definitely listened to it more than once. I think the other standouts, or at least my favorite tracks, would be “Way Down Here Without You” and “Her Melancholy Tune”. Both tracks have a very Beatle-esque sound, using a slightly slower tempo but still utilizing the music to fill the room to make it sound full and strong. That might make zero sense, but it does to me. That’s really how the whole album is. It’s got a mix of classic pop rock with some modern sounds (well, if you count 2002 as being modern), and it did remind me of The Beatles in a few ways. But every song is extremely impressive, and though the album isn’t revolutionary or anything, I absolutely adored it, and am heavily looking forward to exploring more of Superdrag’s discography. I would recommend this album to everyone. This album is officially Berry Approved, so go listen to it now!
