The Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult
Unsurprisingly, this is definitely the weakest of the three Naked Guns. It wasn’t bad, it’s just not on the insanely awesome level that the first two are on. That’s usually the case anyways, especially with comedy trilogies or series; as the films go on, they progressively become worse. But in this case, I think it’s a very well rounded trilogy, and a very underrated sequel. Despite having a different director, the humor is still top notch, with tons of laughs and goofs that don’t disappoint. I think the biggest downside of the film is that it does feel repetitive, despite there still being new settings and characters. The humor, though still really good, doesn’t feel quite as prevalent as the other films. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still great, just not as great. I like the storyline of Frank being retired and coming back to the force, going to jail undercover, and of course, dropping in on the Academy Awards. I was very excited about that, seeing as the Academy Awards is my favorite night of the year. The acting was alright, with the returning characters being strong as before, and some memorable characters. Leslie Nielsen is an absolute joy as always. Nobody does it like he does. I think that’s about all I have to say. It’s a solid ending to the trilogy, though we now have a soft reboot coming out this weekend, so hopefully the torch will be carried triumphantly. I would probably recommend this to most comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
