Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
There’s been quite the amount of mixed feelings on this film, and I’d probably join that crowd. By “that crowd”, I mean the ones that find this film completely pointless and not having much plot. While I did enjoy it, by the end, I didn’t feel very satisfied or fulfilled (that’s what she said). The biggest drawback about it is how it just feels like an ultra long episode, and doesn’t seem to lead anywhere or have any kind of character development. I was hoping….PRAYING that there would be some kind of character decisions that lead into something important, or that they get more “life” to them. Because honestly since the first episode of ‘The Mandalorian’, it’s essentially been the exact same personality and character growth. That’s over exaggerated, because Mando has grown. But it’s been awhile. Also with Grogu, that little green baby needs to start speaking or doing something important. He just feels like a money grab at this point. He doesn’t have a major role in the franchise other than looking cute and selling merch. That’s the honest truth. As much as I love him, Filoni and Favreau need to get their act together and start writing an actual character. Anyways, there’s my rant and biggest complaint about the film. There’s not really a plot, buildup, or character arcs. However, it’s still fun, for the most part. It felt really long, but I was having a good time and all the action sequences were great. Pedro Pascal is wonderful to see on the big screen in any form, even if he physically only has one scene. All the other performances were very stale and a little hard to sit through. The visual effects were pretty fantastic all around, though the Hutts were occasionally a little Polar Express-y. The score from Ludwig Göransson hits like crack and everything he touches is pure gold. Overall, this is a good film but lacks quite a bit of substance, and as a day one Mandalorian fan, I’m a bit disappointed in its direction. But I won’t pretend that I didn’t have fun with it, because I always like watching Mando kick butt. I would probably still recommend this to all Star Wars fans, just don’t expect too much.
