Little Amélie or the Character of Rain
Yeah, this very justifiably deserves its Oscar nomination. It’s not gonna win because of ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, but it would be my second choice. Just the animation alone is enough, but I’ll get to that in a minute. It’s definitely a kid friendly film, but it also packs several deep punches that really resonate with you. I think I learned more about life from this film than what I actually learned in actual life. I’m kidding, of course, but that’s the feeling I’m left with. You get to relive childhood memories and emotions through Amélie, and you feel you are experiencing the world again for the first time. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime feeling that very few films can give you. The story is rooted in culture and nature, and it teaches to enjoy what’s around you, be happy with yourself, and establish peace of mind. Maybe it’s not that deep, but those were my takeaways. It’s such a quick, easy idea, but holds so much. The characters are all good enough, but Amélie obviously steals the show and you very quickly begin to enter her mindset and see the world through a different, though familiar, lens. The voice performances were all decent, though nothing that hugely stood out. And the animation. My goodness. It’s a technicolor-esque dream with beautiful environments, deep focus on nature, and wonderful representation of life. Everything is so fleshed, yet so seemingly simple. The animation is smooth and precise, while also being choppy and a little rough, but NOT in a bad way. It’s a great mimic of real life, both physically and metaphorically. Finally, the score was gorgeous and full of activity, and it hits really hard when it needs to. Extremely underrated and overlooked when it comes to the best scores of 2025. Overall, this is a magnificent film that everyone can truly adore. It can be enjoyed by anyone of all ages. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
