Now You See Me
I’ve been meaning to watch these for awhile, and with the third one coming out this week, that’s the motivation to finally get around to it. It’s pretty much what I expected, which was basically a crime/thriller that involves plenty of magic and illusion. That being said, it was for sure entertaining, though most of this doesn’t make any sense. Obviously, the magic and tricks aren’t supposed to make sense, but the actual plot is very vague and feels all over the place. The pacing was decent, and everything moved forward at a consistent speed. However, there’s so many jumps between scenes, and the motives and ultimate payout were weak and forced, that you can’t help but feel a bit confused. I mean, maybe that’s the point, but things still feel lame at times. It’s more of a “turn off your brain” kind of film, where if you try too hard to understand, you won’t have fun. Just sit back and let everything happen and just try to enjoy it. Ignore the writing. The performances were all mediocre at best, which is a little surprising because of how stacked the cast is. Everyone felt like they were just playing themselves, rather than characters. Not to say they were bad, they just weren’t great. Especially considering this is a film with Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, I would’ve liked more depth. Overall, this film is sloppy at times, but still has some really great scenes that are pretty cool. Just don’t think too hard about it, that’s my advice. I would recommend it to most crime/thriller fans.
