Until Dawn
I don’t think I’ll spend too much time on this review, because this film definitely doesn’t have a lot of substance to talk about. It was awful at times, but also hilariously fun. I think this falls into the “it’s so bad, it’s good” category. The video game is obviously infinitely better, and the film takes a lot of creative liberties to adapt to a film audience. If you’ve played the game, then you know what I’m talking about. The story is similar to the game, though most of the characters are different, and it follows a different path. However, there are some good callbacks to the game, and the return of Peter Stormare as Dr. Hill was really cool (even though it brought back my PTSD). The performances were all mediocre at best, and every character was truly insufferable (except for Max). It was hard to root for anyone to live. The makeup was good, though the wendigo were goofy and corny, and looked straight out of Spirit Halloween. And that’s honestly all there is to say about this. All the deaths were pretty fun and gory, which I always enjoy. But the story was sloppy, the villains were corny, and the cast wasn’t great. I’d say if you’re a big fan of the game, just stick to the game.
