Camp Rock 3
I should honestly be rating this a lot lower than I am, because it certainly lives up to the title of “ A Disney Channel Original Movie”. If anything, this feels like a spoof or parody of the first two. The majority of it is fan service, callbacks to iconic lines, and a very familiar storyline with cliche characters. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I pretty much loved this. Not as much as the first two, because those are a different level of iconic, but this is a ridiculously goofy but solid threequel. It’s so hilariously over the top that you can’t help but make fun of it, yet you still get completely invested. By the very end, I felt like a Camp Rocker myself. I’d like to put in an order for twelve more of these films. Let’s make a whole cinematic universe. The CRCU. Get it done, Disney. Anyways, the story is basically a rehash of the first one, with a little spin on it. You basically follow the main characters completing the Camp Rock challenges that are on the path to Final Jam. That’s about it. Some of the classic songs are sung by the new crew, with there also being new original songs that are pretty decent. Nothing exceptional, and very Disney-esque, but decent nonetheless. A lot of the iconic lines from the first film are also written into the dialogue, for fan service reasons. Completely unnecessary, but I was giggling hard. Most of the dialogue was pretty awful and very sappy, and again, it’s very Disney-esque, but that’s what makes it so fun. If the film tried to take itself seriously, it would be horrendous. But it leans into the cringe, and that’s what makes it work. The whole cast was good (not great), but they impressed me, mostly because they didn’t have much to work with. I think they picked a good crew to carry on the Camp Rock name, and of course, the return of the Jo Bros was magnificent. I would’ve liked more screentime from them, but what we got was great. Also (and spoiler!), the cameos from Milo Manheim and Demi Lovato completed me in so many ways. I think I’ve covered just about everything. Overall, it’s a very cringey, stupid, and kind of bad film…..but it’s also one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen. It lives up to the “Camp Rock” vibe, and it completes(?) one of my new favorite trilogies ever. I would recommend this to all comedy/musical fans, just make sure to not expect too much, and obviously be caught up on the first two. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
