Jurassic World Dominion: Extended Version
After finally having seen both the Jurassic Park trilogy and Jurassic World trilogy, I can confirm (unsurprisingly) that this is my least favorite film of all of them. I do think it’s mildly underrated, not by much, but still underrated. You definitely have to turn off your brain a bit when watching it. The writing isn’t all there, as the dialogue is generationally bad, and the storyline doesn't make much sense at all. I’ve seen this equated to “The Rise of Skywalker of the Jurassic franchise”, which is pretty self explanatory. It felt like a cameo fest played for laughs, rather than something of substance. If there wasn’t any action on screen, it was painfully slow and nearly boring. I also picked the extended version to watch, so that added on some runtime that probably didn’t need to be added on. I figured go big or go home, and afterwards, I felt like I went home. The action was great and exciting, but the whole thing was just too dragged out. Plus, the whole thing with the locusts and crops felt a big lame for a big finale film. The cast was also a bit lame, which hurts me to say, because I love the original cast so much. The return of Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum was awesome as expected, but their performances weren’t totally there. Same for the World cast. Everyone felt a little stale. Not terribly much, but enough to be noticeable. Giacchino’s score is great again, and his music is one of the few positively consistent things of this trilogy. Lastly, the VFX and animatronics were great again, and the dinosaurs were a big highlight. I loved all the different chases and showdowns, and they looked cool. Overall though, the film definitely lacks flare, and though conceptually, it’s there, the end result isn’t. I’m hoping the next trilogy will pick up. I wouldn’t necessarily watch this again, or the theatrical version, but it was a solid one time viewing. I would only recommend this if you are a big dino fan.
