Enemy
This will be a wildly short review (well, not wildly, but definitely short) because this is one of the best mindf*cks that I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a LOT. It pulls out all the tricks when it needs to, yet it’s not too overwhelming where you’re constantly falling behind in the story or character arcs. That being said, Denis Villeneuve is a master at his craft, and he’s the right person to do this. Then, you just throw in Jake Gyllenhaal and BAM you’ve got yourself one of the best psychological thrillers ever. The imagery and themes really hit you, even if you don’t understand half of what any of it means. But that’s the beauty of it. Like David Lynch said, why do you expect to understand art when you barely understand life? What more can I say without spoiling……well, not a lot. In fact, I’m gonna keep my mouth shut because I’m still in disbelief and my head is swimming with ideas. I may revisit this review in the future, and throw some theories in here, but for now……shhhhhhh. Just go check this out when you get the chance, because it just works. I would recommend it to all drama/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
