Trolls
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would get around to watching this, much less enjoying the crap out of it. But guess what? I watched it, and I enjoyed the crap out of it. The only pull it had on me to watch it was the soundtrack, and the fact that Justin Timberlake is in it. However, it was genuinely heartwarming, and no matter how stupid or corny it is, it’s hilarious and entertaining. Especially considering the fact that I’m a 22 year old man. It’s not targeted for my demographic, but that doesn’t mean I can’t like it. The story is super cliche, and a lot of extremely common themes for every kids movie ever made, especially all the animated ones. The thing that stands out about this so much is the music. I love how the soundtrack mostly consists of covers, rather than a bunch of crappy original songs. I loved how I could sing along with this film, without having ever seen it before. All the songs are catchy and arranged to fit each scene beautifully. The vocal performances from the cast are all solid, though nothing out of the ordinary. Most everyone just plays themselves, except for a couple characters. I’m not completely sold on Anna Kendrick as a singer, but she’s not bad. Timberlake, or course, is great, I just wish they eased back on the autotune for him. Finally, the colors and animation were all very pleasing and easy on the eyes. I love how much of a vibrant world this is, even in the scenes that are in a dull environment. Overall, this is a funny and feel good film for people of all ages, and I loved it. I would recommend it to all animation/musical fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
