Jurassic Park III
Much like its predecessor, this is a film that probably shouldn’t exist, and isn’t super well made, but can still be exciting. It’s obviously nowhere near the first film, and not as good as the second, either, but I actually enjoyed this one more than the second. I think only having a runtime of an hour and a half is very smart, especially when the plot is paper thin. You don’t really have to think too hard about it, you can just sit back and watch dinosaurs be awesome. In terms of originality, there’s not much that’s new to the film or franchise. A couple previous characters return, and there’s mention of past events. The rest of the plot is just a rescue attempt on a dinosaur infested island. And that’s it. There’s some fun chase sequences, and lots of great action, but that’s about all this has going for it. The acting wasn’t very good, although William H. Macy and Sam Neill are pretty good. Most of the characters were all pretty insufferable, and the only person I was rooting for was Dr. Grant. I was hoping everyone else would be chomped in two. The score, though not done by John Williams, was still great, and has the traditional Jurassic Park sound. Lastly, the CGI and practical effects were still solid, with some dinosaur designs that were memorable and cool. Overall, it’s a weak third film, but still enjoyable, for the most part. It’s not one I would frequently rewatch, but it’s a goofy little film that could be fun to revisit every once in a while. I would only recommend it if you like little dinosaur movies, or you’re watching your way through this franchise.
