Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League
I don’t often say it, but I enjoyed this sequel better than the original. I’ve still been debating which one is technically better, which I think I would say the first one, only because it takes place in Japan. This one takes a different technique of utilizing Japanese culture and art styles, making it stand out from the first, while also having the same vibes. It almost takes a multiverse shift of introducing the Yakuza League, while not overcomplicating the story and not using the very cliche multiverse idea. I won’t elaborate so I don’t spoil anything. But I liked how each villain was introduced. In terms of plot, it doesn’t feel too much different from the first film, and at times, I just felt like I was rewatching the first, but in an alternate setting. However, the writing around the characters (both the heroes and villains) builds a new sense of urgency and excitement. Especially the use of more heroes than just Batman. There were times where I was smiling ear to ear, and loving every second of it. But I will say that the first half seemed very slow and it was hard for me to fully invest in the dialogue. It wasn’t bad, I was just ready to see the anime-esque action sequences. The character designs were all very memorable, especially with the Bat Family. Each suit that any of the Robins or Nightwing had was ELECTRIC. Maybe some of my favorite Robin/Nightwing suits I’ve ever seen in a DC film. The voice cast is pretty great, but like the first, nothing too out of the ordinary for a DC animated film. The animation is also just about the same, with a slightly updated look that looks better than the first. Specifically in the third act. Overall, this is a great sequel, and though I wasn’t expecting too much, I had a good time and look forward to rewatching it. I would recommend it to all DC fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
