KPop Demon Hunters
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ELECTRIC FILMS I’VE EVER SEEN. Even if you are the lamest person on earth, I guarantee you that there is something in this that you’ll find entertaining. I’ve never been a huge K-pop fan, but this past year, I’ve taken a very strong liking to Tomorrow x Together. That being said, I had some interest in this when it was released, but put it off. Now that I’ve seen it, I immediately understand why it’s the most watched film in Netflix history. It currently has 325 million views, which would be around 95% of America. That’s crazy. Anyways, it’s one of the best animated musicals you’ll ever see, and beats pretty much any Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks film this decade. The story is literally so much fun, and a lot deeper than I thought it would be (in terms of emotion). It’s not just a K-pop band that fights demons. There’s great character chemistry, lessons about accepting yourself as you are, and relying on the people around you. By the very end, I felt so affected and my heart was very heavy, but in a positive way. It’s so touching and existential. Each character is memorable and has an important part to play in the story. The cast was pretty good, though nothing super impressive. The dialogue was funny and the line deliveries were on point, but it’s the music that is the monstrous cherry on top. The songs were sung by different people than the main cast, which is obvious, but it still works. Each and every song has so much passion and heart to it. My favorite song was “Free”, which elevated my soul to somewhere not on this planet. Finally, the animation was absolutely incredible. There was so much detail and life in every frame, but it’s not overly done and too distracting. There’s so much to look at, but your eyes are still on each character. Every battle sequence was epic and fun, and then each emotional moment pulls at your heart strings and showers you with warmth. It’s vibrant, it’s colorful, it’s immersive. Overall, this is one of the best animated films of the 21st century, and I would recommend it to everyone I ever meet. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
