The Studio (Season 1)
I do not say this lightly: this is one of the greatest shows of all time. Not this decade. Not this century. OF ALL FREAKING TIME. The only reason it’s so great is because of my love for film and cinema. The average TV show fan probably would find this good, but not as phenomenal as I do. Reason being, while it’s in its own universe, it’s very campy and very meta. There’s so many real life people and events this is based on, and I love films/shows that can make fun of itself by acknowledging real life things. Such as ‘Scream’, which pokes fun at actual horror movies. This is like the TV show equivalent. Seth Rogen plays Matt Remick, the head of a fictional film studio (Continental Studios), and he has to run the studio with his little gang. There’s all sorts of mishaps and bad decisions, and it ultimately turns into one of the funniest seasons of TV you’ll see in your life. Especially if you’re up to date in cinema knowledge. As I said, it parodies actual cinematic events and projects that have happened over the last couple years, and makes fun of controversial topics like the box office, AI, and much more. Plus, there’s so many epic cameos, such as Martin Scorsese, Zac Efron, Paul Dano, Zack Snyder, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, and a million more. The entire cast is downright hilarious, and everyone deserves an Emmy and a Golden Globe for their performance. I’m gonna be really disappointed if this show doesn’t do well this upcoming awards season. It seriously deserves it. I also love the pacing of each episode. They’re all shot in a one-take style, which keeps each episode moving forward very quickly, and it keeps you on your toes. Despite being a comedy, it’s still very stressful, because of how quickly it moves. Not stressful in a bad way. It’s just that something is always happening and moving forward, and you’re never bored for a second. That’s all I’ll say about this. It’s one of the most well written, executed, and performed shows I’ve ever seen, and I would recommend it to everyone, especially if you love the film world. You are SERIOUSLY missing out if you haven’t seen this. Plus, season two has been greenlit, so they have the chance to make it even better. This season is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
