Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
This will be a quick review, because honestly, this film doesn’t deserve my time. As a massive fan of the original Wimpy Kid film trilogy, and an even bigger fan of the book series, I felt completely cheated out of any kind of enjoyable experience. This film, compared to the first three, is like comparing ‘Sharknado’ to ‘Citizen Kane’. While there are parts of the film that are loyal to the book, it also takes a huge swerve into the modern world and completely ruins the aesthetic and atmosphere that the first three films have. The story is a hot mess and is completely void of emotion, except for a couple small moments. The dialogue is horrible and the characters are such a huge step down from what we’ve seen. No hate to the cast at all, but……no. They don’t cut it. Recasting the original Heffley family is like recasting the Corleone family. You just…..can’t. That’s all I wanna say about this. It’s just awful. I’ll give it points for the ‘Psycho’ shower scene, and how certain parts are true to the book, but that’s about it. It falls flat in every other sense, and it’s too modernized to feel like a true Wimpy Kid book. I’m blasting this film into oblivion in my headcanon. #NotMyHeffleys
