Hotel Room
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know this existed until a couple weeks ago, when I saw it on a Letterboxd list. I looked into it, and found it free on YouTube, so I went for it. It’s definitely not as Lynchian as most of David Lynch’s stuff, but it still has an eerie vibe. It’s three episodes, the first two being half an hour, and the third being forty five minutes. It’s a nice little anthology series, where each episode takes place in the same hotel room at different points in time. It’s very dialogue oriented, which doesn't really add up to anything, nor are the three episodes connected. However, it’s fun to listen to. The first episode was my favorite, mostly because of Harry Dean Staunton’s appearance. The other two episodes are still solid, but the first one was the best. Crispin Glover was in the third one, which was really cool. Him working with David Lynch is a match made in heaven. The second episode was a tiny bit flat, but the first and third are awesome. They also have the best characters. That’s about all there is to it for this miniseries. It’s a little spooky, has a Lynchian feel, and a classic Badalamenti score that adds mystery. Some may think it leads nowhere and is ultimately meaningless, but I liked it. I would recommend it to all Lynch fans. This series is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
