The Accountant2
I think it’s funny how I really wanted to watch this when it first came out in theaters, and then I just got lazy and decided not to. Here we are, close to a year since its release, and I finally got around to watching it. It’s definitely not a film that I really regret not seeing in theaters, because it’s your typical action/thriller sequel that we usually get once or twice each year. It doesn’t really stand out a whole lot, just because it doesn’t really build much onto the first film, nor does it add anything new to the genre (and nobody expected it to). But, it still does pack a fun punch when it needs to, with memorable action sequences and great characters. Well, two great characters. I enjoyed seeing Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal team up again, and their bromance really shines, maybe even more so in this one than the first. I certainly would not mind seeing them in more films together, because they really do click. Not only that, but their performances are both very comedic and relatable, but they each have their sentimental moments when the film needs it. Even though Affleck and Bernthal shine brightly, the story is very mediocre and doesn’t differ from other action films. I was really hoping it would lean into the mathematical/accounting aspect like the first one did, but unfortunately, it barely does. I think if it did, I definitely would’ve put this higher than I did. Again, the action scenes are great, it’s just that there isn’t a very strong draw into the plot. That’s really about all there is to mention. It’s just your average action/thriller, but it’s still enjoyable and has some pretty fun moments. It just needs a little more substance. I would probably only recommend it if you’re a fan of the first one.
