On the Line (2001)
The main reason I have very, very badly wanted to watch this, is for the beautiful Lance Bass. And Joey Fatone too, but not as much. After several months of waiting for this to be available on streaming, it finally hit Paramount+, so I jumped immediately on it. And may I say, it’s one of the best rom-coms I’ve seen in a long time. By best, I mean I absolutely loved it, despite it being….not super well made. But that’s what makes them so charming and beautiful, because of the goofiness and crappy writing. The story is very silly and very cliche, but when I tell you it had me in its clutches, believe me, I was in its clutches. I got so invested in Kevin’s pursuit of his mystery train girl, and by the end, I was feeling so many emotions. The most I’ve been into a love story in so long. Like I said, the writing is crappy, so there’s a lot of random little things and words that make no sense, or are extremely awkward and silly, but again, that’s the point. It’s a fun, turn-your-brain-off film that is hilarious. It’s so bad, it’s good. I thought the acting was actually pretty decent, in a sense of everyone having fun and enjoying themselves. All the guys were pretty funny, especially Joey Fatone. Plus, the “behind the scenes” during the end credits with Justin and Chris, I was absolutely fanboying in my head, and smiling the entire time (*NSYNC, more like *N-Stink). Lastly, the soundtrack was so good, with some *NSYNC, Brittany Spears, Al Green, and more. Overall, this film was a complete joy, and I immediately impulse bought it on DVD the second the film was done. I am so in love with it (and Lance, of course), and I can foresee myself rewatching it very, very soon. I would recommend it if you love crappy rom-coms. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
